Yup.... the retcon hammer strikes hard; hard enough to change his name. But thats OK, cause his new name is Clone Commander Rex!

I see a lot of people are split between this. Some are saying it's a very good move, and others are saying it's a stupid decision. Personally I like it, Fett clones will never die! But it does leave some plot holes...

Someone who was very desperate for something. Ans i don't know what that something is, but only being desperate could drive someone to do this lol
Granted its a nice idea... but if u really think about it wouldn't he play a bigger role in the rebellion being this military wise guy?
And yeah theres not even a resemblance between him and clone wars rex. Maybe a slight resemblance between the facial hair and the rebels rex. Besides that hes too gaunt and skinny, and not wearing armor

    here's my thoughts on this:

i dont why i should care. this changes literally nothing in my eyes in the grand scheme of things. so he was at endor? ok, thats cool i guess. whatever you say, disney. its just paying lip service to those who idolize rex (and clones in general), and providing the rest of us with a trivia question for the next time we play star wars trivial pursuit. to me this was just an announcement for the sake of making an announcement about a character we all know because they can, and because they needed something interesting to say.

Yeah, thats about it....... I imagine Filoni heard the fan theory about this that has been floating around ever since Greybeard Rex first appeared in Rebels, shrugged his shoulders and said "Hey, why not?"
Its not like Nik is ever named in the films...and I can't even recall anything about him from the EU ( to be fair, I probably only read about 60ish% of the pre-Disney books).
So....it is an effortless and pain-free way to not just cater to the clone fanboys, but to also open the door to a potential line of stories woven around Rex training and leading Rebel Commando squads, Dirty Dozen style....

I don't see how it's adding a plot hole. There was no real reason we would have seen him prior to Endor in the OT since he was a soldier/ commando and could easily have just not been in the rebel cells we saw... Then he volunteered for the Endor mission, so what

Its just that Fett clones were made to age super quick. Not a big OT nerd (sorry), but I'm pretty sure battle of Endor is a good 5 or so years after the Clone wars. Now unless Disney make the Skirata clan "canon" I can see Rex being in the battle of Endor. But yea, thats the plot hole, clones aging fast.

Yes, because Luke and Leia were 5 or so years old at the Battle of Endor :p

But on a serious note....the Battle of Endor was only 4 years after the Battle of Yavin, which is less than 1 1/2 years in the future from the season 3 ending of Rebels.
Your point about faster aging for clones is valid, but its only another 5ish years in Rex's future.

EDIT: Now that I ponder it a little longer.....the accelerated aging actually fits pretty well. It would help to explain his loss of muscle mass betweeen Rebels and RoTJ. Ah, retconning :)

yeah, try about 25. you dont have to be an OT nerd to see that luke and leia are in their 20s in the OT.

battle of geonosis was 22 BBY and endor was 4 ABY, which means there were 26 years between the start of the clone wars and the battle of endor. i rounded it to a nice number of 25.

mustafar was 19 BBY. endor was 4 ABY so they'd both be 23 at endor. yes, luke and leia were 19 at the battle of yavin, but quite a bit happened after that, which would mean they were in their 20s for most of the OT.

so as i said, they were in their 20s.
