    Update 3 - Global Zebra and Mare have been equalized to JP as of Oct. 25.
    ___________________________________________________
    Update 2 - Turns out BF Global's crit calculation is different from what's posted here

    In Global it is currently 1.0 (base) * [1.5 (crit) + 3.0 (Zebra) + 3.0 (Zebra)] = 7.5x damage
    With one Zebra this equates to 4.5x damage

    This is a bug and the devs are aware of it, so don't expect this to last

    We are supposed to be 6.0x and 3.0x for two and one Zebras, respectively, like this thread suggests, until we get the nerf that JP got bringing it down to 4.5x and 3.0x

    ___________________________________________________
    Update - BF recently changed the critical calculation in JP (Zebra too OP?) such that 2x Zebra LS modified the 1.5x critical multiplier additively instead of multiplicatively.

    In Global it is 1.5 (crit) * 2.0 (Zebra) * 2.0 (Zebra) = 6.0x damage
    In Japan it is 1.5 (crit) * (1.0 (base) + 1.0 (Zebra) + 1.0 (Zebra) ) = 4.5x damage

    Note that a single Zebra LS will still be 3.0x damage for both Global and JP

    ___________________________________________________

    Came across a video by ROMsendesu in which he tested, quite exhaustively, how damage is calculated in BF. You can find the video at the bottom of this post. It was pretty interesting and here are the results. Please let me know if you spot any mistakes. I can't actually read a word of Japanese, so it is possible I have mistakes.

    Credits go to ROMsendesu for the testing, and me for writing this guide.

    You may not reproduce this guide as your own. Ask me for permission before posting this elsewhere.
    Some people have been stealing guides from this forum ><

    Note:
    1. It has been assumed that damage calculations follow the same formula in both the Japanese and Global versions. The testing was done in the Japanese version, but I believe it is safe to assume they're the same
    2. Defense is completely ignored in all data. All damage dealt during testing was under an Ignore Defense buff
    _________________________________________________________________
    How much damage you deal can be calculated very accurately using the attack stat of a unit. I will not be explaining every single test that was done in the video since it would be quite tedious; I'm just going to list and explain the results.

    Damage done = Attack of unit * [1.0 + Sphere + LS + LS + P + O + aBB + BB] * C * E * S

    Sphere
    - Muramasa, Holy Blade, Giant Stone, etc apply here
    LS = Leader Skill
    - This applies onto to "xx% boost to Atk Power of xxx" leader skills
    - There are two "LS" in the equation. This is to accomodate both your own and your friend's LS

    - ALL attack up leader skills that currently exist in the game stack and are calculated this way
    P = Potion
    - This refers to 30% Atk Potions only at the moment as we do not have any other potions with this effect
    - In the future we will get 50% Atk Potions. However, note that there is only one "P" in the equation.

    - This means that it is impossible to have two 30% potions or one 30% potion and one 50% potion active at the same time. The one used second will replace the effect of the first
    O = Ore
    - Fire/Water/etc ores are calculated here
    - Note that "P" and "O" are separate

    - This means that attack potions and ores DO stack
    aBB = Attack Buff BB
    - This covers the BB's of units like Weiss. The value of this "aBB" factor will depend on the unit that uses the BB and the level of the BB on that unit
    - Note that there is only one "aBB" factor

    - This means multiple Attack Up buffs will NOT stack
    BB = Damage boost from using an attacking BB
    - This is the boost in damage a unit does with an attacking BB
    - Every unit's BB has a different "BB" value that is calculated here. Some units have a large value (i.e. Lodaga), while others have a smaller one (i.e. Alice)

    - Keep in mind that while Alice's BB has a smaller "BB" value, the damage dealt is to everyone, whereas while Lodaga has a large "BB" value, that damage is only dealt to a single target
    - This is the value that changes when you level up BB
    C = Critical
    - A critical hit will add a 1.5x multiplier to the total damage
    - Can be modified with "Boost in critical hit damage" leader skills
    E = Elemental Weakness
    - Attacking a unit that you have an advantage over will add a 1.5x multiplier to the total damage
    - Attacking a unit that you have a weakness to will add a
    0.5x multiplier to the total damage
    S = Spark
    - A spark will add a 1.5x multiplier to the damage dealt
    - Note that this 1.5x multiplier affects only the hit that actually sparked
    - Can be modified with "Boost in spark damage" leader skills

    ROMsendesu's video is embedded below.

    For those interested in how the damage was calculated at the very end:

    Team used

    Rogion - Attacker
    1768 Attack
    450% Bonus BB damage
    Holding Muramasa

    Hionihime - Leader
    Large boost in critical damage
    Doubles damage dealt by criticals

    Zebra - Friend
    Large boost in critical damage
    Doubles damage dealt by criticals

    Michelle - Buff
    Attack buff BB
    Grants 100% boost in attack

    DUEL - GX II - Critical bonus
    BB - Allies have an increased chance of critical hits for 3 turns

    Diruma - Ignore Defense
    BB - Allies ignore defense when attacking for 3 turns

    1768 * [1.0 + 0.5 (Sphere) + 0.5 (Ore) + 0.5 (Potion) + 1.0 (Attack buff) + 4.5 (450% attack BB)] * 1.5 (Dark > Light) * 1.5 (Critical) * 2.0 (Leader skill affecting critical damage) * 2.0 (Leader skill affecting critical damage) = 127,296 Damage

    Actual damage = 123,962

    Very interesting and helpful, thank you for this. Are you aware of any research that has been done into how defense factors into the damage formula?

    Would this mean that the setup would be more effective compared to say 5x kikuri's ?

    Watched the clip. No idea how did he get the number 450% BB from. Super weird if it's that high.

    There's only been 2 games where I actually wanted to know what the damage formula was- This game and Monster Hunter xD

    No it wouldn't.
    You have almost no AoE in this setup.
    Also you'd probably have to drop hundreds of $ to pull Rogion, Micelle, Diruma, and Duel GX.
    Then your friend would have to farm Zebra. Not to mention Hionihime is JP only.

    I'm guessing it's from other testing, but it doesn't seem that high really. I mean if you do 1000 damage on a normal attack, 4500 damage on a BB isn't something I would consider outrageous

    You could also try this for AoE

    To really understand how much damage that guy put out in a single turn, compare it to how long it took a team of Kikuri/Magress to kill the exact same boss

    Go to about 7:00 into the second video. The beginning is level 3, but you want the level 4 quest which is what the first guy did

    Um.. I didn't do any of the testing myself. You can't control BB in arena too soo

    Gonna be funnnn

    It does well in FH I think actually. Lots of people at the top of FH leaderboards in JP have Zebra leaders, which makes me suspect this is what they're doing
